Although the government is starting to bang on about Superfast broadband, it’s common knowledge that at the moment there’s a big disparity between the broadband speeds of different areas in the UK. Obviously a little village in the bowels of Cornwall isn’t going to be matching the internet speed of a big city. But what’s surprising is that rather than say, London or Manchester, it turns out the fastest broadband in the United Kingdom is in Scottish capital, Edinburgh which has average speeds of 10.1 megabits per second.

The revelation comes as part of a new interactive map by Ofcom which shows-
-Availability of superfast broadband (speeds above 24Mbps)
-Average broadband take up
- Average speeds
-Percentage of homes with less than 2Mbps

Ofcoms’s chief executive Ed Richards said “We are now developing a clear picture of the UK’s fixed broadband infrastructure and how it delivers for consumers. We hope that this information will stimulate further rollout of broadband infrastructure and better performance for households and businesses.”

The map also shows that residents of Luton and Newtonabbey are most likely to have access to superfast broadband and that 14% of connected households are stuck in the slow lane with speeds of less than 2Mbps.
